Educator Slain and 25 Girls Abducted in Armed Clash at Educational Institution in Nigeria
Gun-wielding individuals have taken the life of an instructor and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an assault against a female high school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.
The criminal group stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in the Maga locality within Kebbi State at approximately 04:00 local time on the start of the week, officials stated.
The assailants "confronted officers on duty in a shootout" before climbing over the boundary wall and taking the pupils captive from their living quarters, according to a statement.
A school employee was killed while trying to protect the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now receiving treatment.
Witnesses reported a considerable contingent of armed individuals, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who arrived firing sporadically to generate terror.
Area inhabitants disclosed to media that the armed men then led a contingent of young women into adjacent wilderness.
The authorities announced they had sent "additional police tactical units, alongside military personnel and vigilante groups" to the area.
