Information Available Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Terror Attack

No fewer than 16 lives lost their lives and more than 40 were wounded when assailants opened fire at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident local police have labeled a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, officials have confirmed the number of fatalities stands at 16, which includes one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 injured people were admitted to medical facilities.

The victims are still awaiting publicly named, but authorities state their ages range between 10 and 87 years old.

Below are the individuals who have been identified so far.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Known as a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.

She recounted the moments leading up to the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

In a statement, a senior official declared that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was a fatality during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many remain under care, with several in a critical state. Those hurt include two officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He told reporters he heard “a large number” of shots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
