Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
