As he approaches his six-year milestone in charge, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his continued role with the club is inextricably linked to achieving success.

Reflecting on: From Appointment to Present

The Spanish coach assumed control on the 20th of December in 2019 and managed to steer the team to an cup win a short time later. Yet, that first major trophy is still his only significant piece of silverware following the departure of Unai Emery.

“Absolutely,” the manager said upon being asked about remaining in charge after his current deal. “However, it is about today. And numerous factors have to happen in the next few months as well to deserve that opportunity.”

This weekend sees the landmark with a game facing Everton, the exact opponent Arsenal met immediately following his role was made public.

League Position and Pressure

He added, expressing gratitude for the consistent faith from the club's ownership, yet identifying the team's buy-in as the key factor. “In the final analysis, the critical component are those players... Over this half-decade, I’ve seen just players with a level of attention, desire to learn and give the maximum to the team.”

Injury Concerns

The team approaches the Everton match coping with a fresh setback. Defender Ben White has been sidelined with a muscle problem that is expected to keep him out for the coming weeks.

A Different Club

Despite the fitness woes and the high-stakes environment, Arteta is confident the club's “focus and dialogue” are profoundly distinct from when he began his reign.

Arteta highlighted the record-breaking achievements as a sign they are nearing their goal. “You look at the performances, all the records that we... were breaking... We still have yet to do that [win trophies]. But that indicates the level we are at.”

He finished by saying, “It represents a quality that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And our ambition is to achieve even higher goals. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
